### Common Issue 0002 Author: Artex (aka: IceDragon) Timestamp: 02.Oct.2005 @ 0850 Relation: Bugge Hunters Section: Dreams Title: The upload sequence freezes up during compression Description: The user may complain that their dream upload doesn't work, freezes up or doesn't even start. What they possibly see when they try to upload is the message "* Compressing files..." in the chatbox and no upload line on the gamescreen (true, because the upload didn't even start yet). No matter how many times they try to upload their dream or where, the same problem repeats itself. Problem: The true cause of the problem hasn't yet been found! What happens, though, is the system that is responsible for compressing files into one package before upload - it malfunctions when it tries to compress one of the files, causing the entire process to simply freeze up without ever recovering from the frozen state. One of them files in the dream folder is the problem! Solution: To make sure this is the case, ask the user if the upload freezes up during compression phase (tell them they are supposed to see "* Compressing files..." in the chatbox and no upload bar yet, frozen). If all this is true, we've definitely caught it right. At this point you may point out it's a known bug, a true solution/workaround to which is yet to be discovered. The only thing the user can do meanwhile is determine which file exactly causes the problem and either modify it or not use it at all. In order to determine the problematic file the user should move one file out of the dream folder and try to upload again. If the upload succeeds - the file they have just moved out is the problematic one. Otherwise, they are to repeat the same steps with another file. Since patch (FSH) files have more probability to be the problem to this, the user should start off with those. If none of the files seem to be problematic and only two remain (.map and .ds), one is to check by assigning the .ds file to a different .map file or vice-versa if one of those is the cause. Eventually, that one file will be discovered, if absolutely every file was checked and none seems to be causing the upload issue, chances are the user didn't check them properly! You are to repeat the steps with them in a more step-by-step manner! Once the problematic file is discovered, it has to be either modified or taken out completely. Details about what exactly must one modify are not yet available.
